What is groupage?
Groupage is a term used for the combination of multiple loads of various shippers in one truck or one container. Groupage basically stands for consolidation of freight.
The advantages of groupage transport
Generally speaking, groupage transport has a lower environmental impact than forwarding one small shipment separately. Groupage increases the load factor of a truck or container: the higher the fill rate of a truck, the less ‘air’ is being transported. Subsequently, groupage reduces the number of truck movements on the road. It is of course much better to run one fully loaded truck than ten trucks, each carrying only a few pallets. Groupage reduces traffic congestion, but also CO2 emissions. The consolidation of multiple shipments into one groupage transport is also more cost efficient.
